Inspiration to WIN

I’m a guitarist. I started when I was two… that’s… a lot of years ago. Through that journey of playing, being serious, not serious, really serious again… I noticed many things that held me back from being as good as I strove to be. When I heard music, I made a judgment. “That’s impossible to play!” And for me, it was. That is, until the invention of YouTube and for the first time, I was able to see someone actually play that impossible piece. Watching shattered the walls of impossibility. All of a sudden, not only did playing the impossible piece seem doable, I felt empowered to do it. And I did, proving to myself over and over again that all I needed was an example of this reality.

Second Samuel chapter 23 introduces us to David’s mighty men. Superhuman. That’s the word I would use to describe these warriors. If we are to believe the text, the numbers of their vanquished foes are astronomical. The first, Josheb the Tahchemonite, killed 800 with his spear in a single battle. Whoah! 800? But the next caught my eye.

2Sa 23:9-10
(9)  And next to him among the three mighty men was Eleazar the son of Dodo, son of Ahohi. He was with David when they defied the Philistines who were gathered there for battle, and the men of Israel withdrew.
(10)  He rose and struck down the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clung to the sword. And the LORD brought about a great victory that day, and the men returned after him only to strip the slain.

Eleazar the son of Dodo (my guess is that he preferred just Eleazar) defeated an unknown number of Philistines to the point where his hand FROZE to his sword. Yes, there is a lot of good symbolism there, but here is what got me. He had fought along-side David before. When you fight next to giant killers, you become a giant killer. Eleazar knew that God could do the impossible through one man, and on that day, he was the man.

No matter what you’re facing, keep this in mind. God can do the impossible through you. Find a giant killer. Follow them. Do not take no for an answer! Even if you have never seen anyone come through the trial you face, congratulations! You will be the first you’ve seen! But not only that. Someone is watching you. And when they see you prove God’s reality, new faith will be birthed in them.
